Boom Boom - figures for motorcycle sales are up and rising!

At last the UK has cottoned on to what we already all know – Motorcycles are the way forward!

Figures just out from the MCIA show that L-category (the name for either electric or petrol lightweight motorcycles and scooters) motorcycle registration figures for January 2022 are way up on the same month last year.

L-category registrations are already well ahead of pre-covid levels, which shows that, despite some import and supply difficulties which the industry has faced in the last couple of years, it is overcoming the obstacles and supplying more bikes to more people. The leisure motorcycle market is on the up, as is the motorcycle's role in commuter transport, helping people to travel around economically, with low emissions, while filtering through the traffic jams.

The joint Government, MCIA and Zemo sector Action plan entitled: Realising the full potential of Zero Emission Powered Light Vehicles, has clearly been very effective, but this is just a part of the growth, it has been seen in all sectors.
January 2022 has given us many great figures from across the board in the motorcycle industry – one to note as particularly impressive is the Adventure motorcycle sector which has increased since Jan 21 – Jan 22 by a cool 160%. This was helped by great performance in the 126-650cc+651-1000cc segments which grew by 98% during the month. It seems that people have realised that motorcycles cover every base – a fun ride for the weekend, a great way to get to work or to get from A to B easily outside work. Well hate to say we told you so, what's kept them all?

Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA said:
“After a very positive response from Government and Industry to the launch of the joint Government & MCIA Action Plan last week, we are delighted to see an encouraging start to 2022. This positive trend, alongside the increase in appetite for Motorcycles & Scooters across all sectors highlights the versatility of Powered LightVehicles for everyday travel, and leisure”.

In fact despite the many troubles which 2021 contained for us all, figures for motorcycling rose exponentially with around 28,000 motorcycle tests taken during the summer between June and September. Big names like Ducati and BMW are reporting great rises in global sales. With the rise in the cost of living, ever increasing amounts of traffic especially in cities and clean air zones proliferating everywhere, powered two wheelers are presenting a more and more attractive proposition for daily travel.

Nice to have some good news!
