BSA Gold Star on the wall chart
The all new BSA Gold Star makes an entrance
The Gold Star previewing at the NEC
How exciting! Not long to wait now, the BSA 650 Gold Star is due to appear in all its retro glory in mid August. The new Gold Star has been anticipated in the UK since plans were announced for the 2020s and now the comeback is here!
One of the bits of good news about the new Gold Star is that it is going to be manufactured in its old Alma Mater, Small Heath in Birmingham, with the necessary jobs created in the UK.
It was thought that the new Gold Star would be a scary price, the rumour mill was churning and a figure of £10,000 was going round, but now the actual figures have emerged, showing that it is going to be available in five colours and at three prices, ranging between £6,500 and £7,000. Much more reasonable than anticipated.
Here are the prices as they stand at the moment:
The Highland Green - £6,500
The Insignia Red, Dawn Silver and Midnight Black - £6,800
The Legacy Silver Sheen - £7,000
Iconic
The original Gold Star was a style icon of the 20th century and the new one follows its ancestor faithfully in appearance, with a distinctive round headlamp and similar proportions to its progenitor. The BSA logo is the same on the pinstriped and chromed tank, altogether the look is of a classic of the past but with modern reliable engineering. It will have a liquid-cooled, single cylinder DOHC 4 valve 652cc engine along with a comfortable riding position and user friendly easy going controls, what's not to like? The pricing and classic good looks put the new Gold Star up there with the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, so that will be an interesting one to watch - will it be as popular as the Interceptor is proving to be?
Cult ClassicsThanks to Wemoto customer Russell Hale for this picture of his beautiful BSA Golden Flash
BSA's reputation goes before, with names like the Golden Flash, Firebird and the Bantam becoming cult favourites, so it is nice to see that they are planning to keep to the same styling which was popular back in the day. BSA was once the biggest motorcycle maker in the world selling one in four of every motorcycles globally, so many riders have a BSA in their past and may now have one in their present and future, due to these attractive new ones rolling off the conveyor belt.
As we have reported previously, BSA are also now dipping their toes into
zero emissions bikes after winning a £4.6 million grant from the UK Government to aid with the development of electric machines, so that will be another interesting development to watch.

BSA website for more details of the BSA Gold Star.
