Burrows Engineering/RK Racing gain Supersport Victory at Tandragee
The 60th anniversary of the Tandragee 100 brings success for the team
Two quality stand in riders, Dominc Herbertson from Newcastle and Michal ‘Indi’ Doukoupil from the Czech Republic, took the team’s Yamaha R6 and Honda Moto3 machines to victory at Tandragee at the weekend.
The riders first became acquainted with their machines on Friday morning, proceeding to five lap qualifying with Dominic taking the R6 to 3rd for a front row start on the Saturday, and Indi gaining a pole position for the Moto3.
Sadly the good weather from the qualifying day didn’t hold for Saturday’s racing wth rain stopping play eventually. First though Dom got off the line well in the Supersport 600 race, slotting easily into second behind Michael Sweeney.
At Marlacoo in the second lap he made his move but the red flags came out due to the weather. The distance required had been reached though so Dominic was given the win, making it the first road race win for team Burrows Engineering/RK Racing, since Mike’s win at Cookstown in 2021.
Due to the unsafe racing conditions, Michal didn’t get a chance to race the Moto3 from pole position.
John Burrows:
“I am delighted with how this weekend went. After last week’s unfortunate end I acquired the services of Dom and Indi and they both did a brilliant job. Dom rode a brilliant race, in less-than-ideal conditions to take the win, which was a huge relief. I’m disappointed that Indi did not get the chance to race the Moto3 as I felt he could have probably won it, but safety is paramount and it was the correct decision to cancel the rest of the races for the club. Now our focus is on the North West 200 and hopefully my plans will be realised this week.”
Dominic Herbertson:
“I am thrilled to get my first 600 road race win, and at Tandragee. I am delighted for the Burrows lads after a tough week. I jumped on the bike on Friday morning, and it was perfect, and to stick it on the front row for the first time riding it is a testament to the team - they are a super-professional team and I am so grateful to John for the opportunity and experience.”
Michal ‘Indi’ Dokoupil:
“I have really enjoyed the experience of riding for John’s team this weekend. I instantly felt at home on the Honda in qualifying and was amazed to get pole by eight seconds. Unfortunately rain prevented me racing the bike but I hope I get this opportunity again as I have had a really fun time with the team.”
Burrows engineering are sponsored by Wemoto and we say congratulations on a great performance despite inclement weather conditions!
