Dealerships to open

Freedom for the forecourt as Motorcycle Dealerships prepare to open their doors

Image
Here at Wemoto as you know we have been permitted to stay open throughout the lockdown, as the government recognises how important it is to keep the wheels turning and motorcycles on the road for those who rely on them for essential transport. However the Prime Minister has now announced that motorcycle dealerships will be allowed to join parts suppliers, and re-open on the first of June. There are the usual caveats however, they must maintain strict social distancing and take all necessary measures to keep their staff and customers as safe as possible at all times, while they are open.

Considered non-essential businesses, motorcycle dealerships doors and forecourts have been firmly closed since March the 23rd when the lockdown started in the UK. But motorcycle dealerships are part of the advanced guard of businesses to open now, and their opening date of June 1st is ahead of most other non-essential UK retailers who are not due to open again until June 15th.

Hopefully this will give the struggling UK motorcycle industry a head start in recovering from the full stop on sales which, of necessity, came along with the lockdown. With sales down 83% in April, and significantly down in May, the industry will have a game of catch up to try to regain lost ground and get up to operational norms. At least the weather is ideal for motorcycling and will hopefully kick start the process as people look for the freedom, joy and practicality which only a motorcycle can offer.
