Festival of Jurby 2018
What to expect at this year's event
The Isle of Man's biggest one-day event is coming up soon (Sunday 26th August). Here's what you can expect.
The bikes
Among the estimated 5,000 bikes and historic vehicles will be:
1967 Benelli 350/4 - This is the very same seven-speed bike Renzo Pasolini rode to 2nd place in the 1968 Junior TT. It was later ridden by 1984 Senior Historic TT race winner Dave Roper at the 1993 Daytona 350. Now, Bennetts is bringing it back to the island to mark 50 years since it got Pasolini his podium place.
Triumph TR6 Trophy - The one used by Steve McQueen for the famous jump in the Great Escape. Dick Shepard, who is donating it for the day, says it took about two months for him to restore, and that 95% of the original parts have been retained. It's in full working order.
Slippery Sam - Courtesy of the National Motorcycle Museum, Slippery Sam will be there, which won five consecutive Isle of Man Production TT races from 1971-1975.
The entertainment
Historic air display - Watch Vietnam Veteran helicopters Huey 509 and Loach 011 as they take to the sky for a spectacular air show. Both have been expertly restored to their original livery and markings, displaying battle scars from their time serving with the US military.
Wemoto marquee - Come for a chat, grab some freebies and buy yourself a
2018 Festival of Jurby charity T-shirt. Just £10 each, with all the profits going to the Manx Grand Prix Supporters' Club to help fund its life-saving helicopter ambulance and injured riders on the Isle of Man.
Mike Hailwood - It's been 40 years since Mike Hailwood made his remarkable TT comeback. Our 2018 Jurby t-shirts sport a picture of Hailwood on his winning Ducati in celebration of his remarkable career. You can also view the bike at the festival.
On track - Watch the parade laps by the VMCC, road racing exotica and invited guests
Autographs – chat to some of the greatest names in motorcycle racing and get autographs. Look out for possible guest appearances from James Hillier, Stuart Graham, Lee Johnston, Ian Lougher, Michael Rutter, Danny Webb, Nick Jefferies. Many classic TT riders are expected to be there.
