Road Rage Britain? Keep calm and motor on
Where do the most furious drivers live?
Bike got so angry it exploded!
IAM RoadSmart, the UK's independent road safety charity, recently commissioned a survey to find out where the angriest drivers in the country lived. Guess what, as you might imagine, they say it's where the most traffic and therefore the most stress is, good old London town.
The survey revealed that 58 per cent of Londoners get angry with other drivers when they're driving - population figures taken into account, this could mean that there are upwards of 1.4 million drivers losing their tempers on London roads.
Not too far behind are the grumpy drivers of Northern Ireland coming in at 45% and the furious West Midlands following up with 44%.
If, by contrast, you're looking for some peaceful driving - head up to Scotland where they are the calmest - is it a coincidence that this is where there isn't as much traffic on the roads? What do you think? Only 32% of drivers up north of the border get shouty behind the wheel. Drivers in the North West (33%) and North East (36%) follow the Scots, with lower road rage admitted.
The Director of Policy and Research at IAM RoadSmart, Neil Greig said:
"In the UK we have some of the busiest and most congested roads in Europe, perhaps making feelings of anger much more likely, and our research shows that this can be clearly observed in some regions more than others.
Having said this, our research demonstrates that far too many motorists are putting the safety of themselves, as well as other road users at risk by succumbing to road rage, with Londoners in particular struggling to keep their cool on our capital’s busy streets."
He added...
“While feeling angry may be a totally natural response to another road user acting recklessly or dangerously, everyone is responsible for maintaining their composure in such instances so that the situation isn’t made any worse. So, for the benefit of yourself and others, take a mindfulness moment, keep calm and motor on!”
