Well they do say you meet the nicest people on a Honda and that's because they are probably in a  cheery mood as they step aboard their easy peasy Wave to nip to work!

The Honda Wave or NF series, is a motorcycle which can trace its pedigree back to 1995 when it superseded the Super Cub. As you can tell from its longevity, it is a perennially popular bike, combining eminently practical hop on hop off good looks, with Honda reliability and superb fuel economy. It comes with three engine options: 100cc, 110cc and 125cc, the smaller two a similar size to the old Honda Cub engine, while the 125cc has a larger engine so needs different mountings. It is designed with an underbone frame and a steel tube chassis clad in cosmetic plastic body parts.

The newer fuel injected Wave 110i and 125i models came in in 2008 and the design had yet another  cosmetic facelift in 2021.

As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and the simple design has made it a very popular bike leading to major cloning from other motorcycle manufacturers in other countries. The Philippines National Bureau of Investigation raided several manufacturers who were accused by Honda of selling Honda Wave clones.

The latest version of the 125 has a fuel injection system, telescopic front suspension, mounting points for a front basket and a 10 litre U-Box under seat storage compartment.

It now also boasts an LCD speedo which gives a clear read out on fuel tank level, distance and gear position and the little bike sports LED head and tail lights. It's 5 litre fuel tank.

All in all the Honda Wave, in its various incarnations is one of those smaller machines which are increasing rapidly in popularity in current times as scooting is on the rise. This is mainly due to the common sense practicality of two wheels, for those wishing to get around cheaply and efficiently, and even safely, in these times of social distancing. It's not difficult to get a CBT – although slots are a bit booked up – so what's not to like!
