What's on offer for motorcyclists in the winter?

take in a show perhaps

John Newman

I hesitated in writing this article, but after seeing, in July, a number of banners exhorting people to book their Xmas functions, I thought it might perform a useful forward planning service for Wemoto News readers.

Also, aside from a few brief interludes, summer has been variable where I live in W Yorkshire nudging the South Pennines. Road miles have been reduced, and to put the icing on the cake, I chose this year to make a motorcycle journey to Iceland; where a temperature in low double figures is a good one. So looking ahead to winter motorcycle shows might not be as perverse as it seems.

This year's Motorcycle Live takes place between 28th November and 6th December at the NEC in Birmingham, advance tickets went on sale on August 3rd: there is always plenty to see at this show - check out the pictures in this article to see what was on offer from last year. There are other shows around too which might tempt you - even to venture over the water...

The Paris Motorcycle Show has been revived this year, with the full title of 'Le Salon de la Moto, Scooter, Quads, & Equipements', and will open its doors to the public from December 1st – 6th.

There was an interval in the show's bi-annual programme when the world economy took a hit from 2008 - it used to alternate with Intermot the large German show held in Cologne. But now it has revived, the manufacturers are back in support, and the exhibitors list is looking very healthy.

The show is held at the Porte De Versailles over five pavilions, and it's an easy venue to access on the Metro. Tickets cost €14 (£9.80) in advance and €17 (£11.90) on the door; and Euro trips represent good value with the pound holding strong against the Euro. There's lots of information in English on the website www.lesalondelamoto.com and the other obvious attraction will be the temptation to extend your visit and spend some time in one of Europe's alluring and lively cities.

Have you got any shows planned for the rest of the year or do you have a favourite which you could recommend - we'd like to hear about it if so - drop us an email at: [email protected]
